On With The Show

The fashion show was held at As You Like It in Jesmond.  It was a total success
and we raised plenty of money for the Salvation Army Charity.
My model looked great in her outfit and everyone had a fab night.
I've LOVED this project!!!

Finally Finished!

Well it's been a long few weeks but I'm finally done with my dress.
It went from jeans and jacket to top and shorts to just a top to a dress.  What a faff on!!
But it's finished and I'm actually really happy with the final look.

The bottom of the dress was a little tight so I had to add some darker panels.
I was a bit worried how it would look but I think it carries
the seventies theme well and adds a more grungey effect.

Showstopping shoes

I love seventies platforms!  These are really bright and detailed but
the colours aren't too out there and they have a subtle glamour about them.
Unfortunately we can't have heels on the catwalk incase the models end up in casualty,
so we'll have to find an alternative.

These flipflops from Van Mildert are lovely.  They have that seventies edge with the
multi-coloured straps and heel but look casual with a neutral undertone.
I really like the hippy feel about them and if I can get something similar then I think
they'll carry the outfit completely!

It's all coming together

I've cut through the legs of the jeans and opened them out into two squares
of fabric.  It doesn't look very neat at the moment
but once I've got the measurements and cut sorted I think it'll work.

This is basically what my dress will look like.  I'm going for a grungey summer look
but keeping the sweetheart neckline to give it a softer touch.
Now I just need to take it home and get chugging on my sewing machine.

Total Change of Plan!

Absolute disaster! I've made the shorts wrong so they don't even go over the knee!
I don't have enough of the jacket left to make another pair and to be honest I'm completely
off shorts now - they're too complicated.

So I've looked at some of my sketches and I think I might have
enough of the jeans material left to make the denim dress (far right).  I've only got a few days
to go before the deadline so I'd best get cracking!

Make it make it

The blue jeans caught my eye straight away because I really like some of the
denim outfits - like the dress on my trend board.  I'm thinking if I cut off the legs,
those pockets are great on their own.  But I need more fabric than just jeans
for a whole garment so I'm going to do something with this Indian style jacket.
Weyyy this could go wrong!!

Jeans cut into shape and measurements taken and I'm feeling a nice top could
be made.  But I think I need to be careful with the pants or this might look a bit cheap.
So I've cut the sleeves off the jacket and folded it into high waisted shorts.
Hopefully covering the belly will tone this bad boy down a bit!

Boards

Our tutors made some boards for each of our trends to give us an idea of what we were doing and to start us off.  I'll be honest, I didn't thinks Seventies would look this good!  Current looks have kept the basics like flares, loose fits etc but turned them into modern, elegant and very cool outfits that would look fab on the catwalk and the highstreet.

My favourite board was Marc Jacobs collection.  I love the colours
and silhouettes and the bows and sashes are great detail ideas.  I also
think it's really good how each outfit is different and has a different style -
you've got dresses, pants, jackets, hats, bodysuits ........ it's brilliant!

The board below is my trend board.  I looked at the Vogue trend report and noticed
there was a lot of denim used in the outfits.  I used some of the Topshop outfits
because they're smashing and a couple of images from Very.com and the Boohoo
spread in More magazine.  I've noticed the main colours are blues and reds but never in
dull shades - always really vibrant.
